On Saturday 2nd February, the RMS Young Enterprise group known as “Talk2Ted” set off for a great day of trading at the Intu Shopping Centre in Watford.

Our product is a teddy bear, with a built in speaker which enables you to record a 20 second message for the recipient. For more information about our product, follow us on Instagram @talk2ted

Although some of us had a very early start and a late finish to the day, we all agreed it was completely worth it and an unforgettable experience. At the start of the day, sales seemed to be a little slow, but we did not let this dampen our spirits; at the very least, we were determined to break even, but we had plenty of faith in the saleability of our product and were optimistic we could make a success of the day.

It was unfortunate that the weather was against us, and we were resigned to the fact that footfall was likely to be less than a on a “normal” Saturday, and our target market wouldn’t necessarily be out in force. But this didn’t deter us, and worked hard and spoke to as many potential customers as possible.  Our positive attitude certainly paid off, as at the end of the day we managed to win not one but two awards  the ‘Best Overall Company ‘ award and ‘ Best customer service’ award. We were delighted and very proud of this outcome, which served to motivate us even more for the rest of the day. It may sound rather trite, but it is true to say that this experience taught us that if you work hard and really put your mind to something, anything is achievable.

On a personal note, taking part in the Young Enterprise scheme has taught me some invaluable life skills, as well as learning the precise framework to running a business and helping me to develop my entrepreneurial streak. I have learnt how to work successfully as a team with a range of different people, all of whom contributed equally to our successful result

We can’t wait so see what the next trade fair and round of the competition brings!  Watch this space,
