The transition from GCSE to A-level is perhaps the most challenging of stages in the educational journey. Our bespoke transition programme helps pupils to confidently adapt to Sixth Form study.

Entry requirements

Unlike many Sixth Forms, our entry criteria is not dictated by GCSE results alone. Although some courses do have entry requirements at a certain level, many have no entry requirements at all. All pupils studying in the Senior School will be offered a place, however this is at the discretion of the Head of Senior School and Head of Sixth Form,  who will also consider a pupil’s attitude to learning throughout her time in Senior School.

Subject choices

We are committed to providing the widest possible range of subjects. Currently, we offer 27 A-level options, we also offer the Extended Project Qualification, which is very popular with top universities.

Pupils in Year 11 will meet with their form tutors one-to-one in November to discuss their options for Sixth Form and beyond. Many universities require specific subjects for their courses, so we encourage them all to make the most of the guidance we offer.

Transition work

Our teaching staff design work that will aid a pupil’s preparation for A-level study. It requires a significant amount of commitment towards research and independent study; critical for success in the Sixth Form. The work is intended for current pupils as well as those joining from other schools.
