On the 26th January, we had the pleasure to play with and be taught by Hazel Ross. Ms Ross is a renowned violinist and has played with the likes of Shirley Bassey, Michael Bublé and Katherine Jenkins, so her expertise was greatly welcomed by the RMS string players.

The class consisted of five musicians; three violins, one viola and one cello. We all played, (albeit a little nervously) through our piece to the audience, which was followed by an in-depth session with Ms Ross where she taught us the technique behind the piece, emphasising on the emotion and expressiveness.

For me, Ms Ross helped me to understand that technique was there in order to help us achieve a well rounded, emotive performance. More importantly, she taught me that I need to have more belief in my own skills, an important lesson for every RMS girls.

Overall, the evening was a huge success, with parents and teachers learning more about string instruments and girls achieving a higher standard of musical performances.
