Sophie Crocker, who left RMS this summer after completing her A Levels, is currently taking part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, which left London on 30th August.
Sophie is the youngest female member on the race, and has long been passionate about sailing. When asked what she was most looking forward to, Sophie answered “Waking up and knowing that I have a full day of sailing to look forward to – being able to go straight up on deck and sail, not having to cast off or wait for the right tides”
What makes Sophie’s adventure more interesting is that she is competing against her mother, Linda, who is a crew member on another boat. Both mother and daughter are extremely competitive and regularly make comments about beating each other.
We look forward to bring you updates of Sophie’s progress as she competes in the first (London to Rio de Janeiro), second (Rio to Cape Town), third (Cape Town to Albany, Western Australia), seventh (Seattle to New York) and eighth (New York to London) legs of the race.
We wish Sophie all the best as she faces this exciting adventure. Having already encountered dangers and challenges on the first stage of the journey, our thoughts are with her,: we are sure that it will be a test of the skills she has learnt during her years at RMS, such as teamwork, commitment, and determination in the face of adversity.
