RMS students are celebrating a year of fantastic GCSE and BTEC results. Over 20% of RMS grades were awarded a grade 9 (4.5% nationally), 37% of grades were 9 or 8, and 57% grade 7 or above (20.8% nationally). Results were exceptional across the board, with stand-out results in the sciences showing RMS students excelling in subjects that girls traditionally are reported to avoid: just over 80% of grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics were awarded a grade 9 or 8.
Nationally there were just 837 students who received straight 9s in 7 or more subjects, and ten of those students were RMS students, with Elizabeth, Charlotte, Charlie, Emma, Lottie, Sasha and Jane all achieving eight grade 9s, and Amy, Laura and Miranda being awarded grade 9s in all ten GCSEs.
Headmaster, Kevin Carson said, “I am very proud of all of our pupils and congratulate them on their hard work and success. For over a fifth of all grades to be awarded a Grade 9 is exceptional, but it is equally satisfying for us that so many students have exceeded their target grades. The academic achievement of our pupils is outstanding by any standards nationally, and it's great to confirm that we cater for, and challenge, the very brightest students here at RMS. They are going to be an incredible Sixth Form and I am very much looking forward to following their future progress.”
Many pupils have done exceptionally well academically whilst also being involved in, and excelling at, commitments outside the classroom, often at national and international level. Leading the way with excellent academic grades are: Amelia Daley who also found the time to train with the Team GB gymnastics squad, smash the County long jump record, rank third nationally in the triple jump and take Additional Maths GCSE; musician Isabella Flynn who continues to dedicate many hours music on three instruments; Lily Gerred who competed as part of Team England at this year’s World Dance Cup; and Emma Futcher who is part of the GB climbing squad.
These superb GCSE results round off an incredible year for RMS which has recently been shortlisted for best Independent School of the Year 2019 by the prestigious Independent Schools Awards.
