Massive congratulations to Year 12 student, Mara, who has been accepted on the prestigious PROMYS Europe programme. Sadly this year, due to Covid-19, the six-week course has had to be cancelled but nevertheless her application particularly impressed the judges and is confirmation of her promise as a mathematician. The programme is designed to encourage mathematically ambitious secondary school students to explore the creative world of mathematics. Competitively selected pre-university students from around Europe gather at Wadham College, Oxford for six weeks of rigorous mathematical activity. It is an enormous achievement.

Earlier this year Mara scored an outstanding Distinction level result in the UKMT’s British Mathematical Olympiad Round Two.  Mara scored 18 marks, surpassing the distinction cut-off of 15 marks! This is the highest level of individual competition that is run in the UK  and is used to select the British team to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad.

The Further Maths class at RMS are a force to be reckoned with,  a team from the group were placed third in the regional final of the UKMT Senior Team Challenge in November and many competed successfully in the Senior UKMT challenge.
