Introducing this week’s Club of the Week – the Cadogan House Samba Band, led by the talented Mrs. Bentham.

The Cadogan House Samba Band is a relatively new ensemble that welcomes pupils regardless of their previous percussion playing experience. Years 5 and 6’s have been exploring the world of percussion with rehearsals taking place every Tuesday during lunchtime.

Did you know that Samba groups are known as baterias? The term stems from the Portuguese word for drum kit, reflecting the energetic and percussive nature of this musical style. Most samba rhythms, including the popular batucada rhythm, are crafted in 2/4 time.

Year 5 and 6 have been focusing on rhythms that feature repetitive motifs to create a steady and hypnotic beat, perfect for conveying an urgent and danceable energy. Enjoy a snippet of their rhythmic music below!
