The transition from GCSE to A-level is perhaps the most challenging of stages in the educational journey. Our bespoke transition programme helps girls to confidently adapt to Sixth Form study.
Entry requirements
All pupils in the Senior School automatically transfer into Sixth Form.
For external applicants, unlike many Sixth Forms, our entry criteria is not dictated by GCSE results alone. Although some courses do require a certain level at GCSE, many have no entry requirements at all.
Subject choices
We are committed to providing the widest possible range of subjects. Currently, we offer 32 subjects, which include 25 A-level options, a Pre-U qualification in Mandarin Chinese, an Applied Level 3 course in Business as well as BTECs in Health and Social Care and Production and Performing Arts. We also offer the Extended Project Qualification, which is very popular with top universities.
Girls in Year 11 will meet with their form tutors one-to-one in November to discuss their options for Sixth Form and beyond. Many universities require specific subjects for their courses, so we encourage girls to make the most of the guidance we offer.
Transition work
Our teaching staff design work that will aid a girl’s preparation for A-level study. It requires a significant amount of commitment towards research and independent study; critical for success in the Sixth Form. The work is intended for girls currently studying in the Senior School as well as those joining from other schools.
