The Apprenticeship Support & Knowledge for schools and colleges programme (ASK programme) is funded by the Department for Education and aims to support schools and colleges in England to increase awareness of apprenticeships, traineeships and T Levels amongst students, parents, carers, teachers and careers advisers.

Launched in 2015, the ASK programme has transformed the careers landscape across England by engaging individuals and wider school and college communities to better understand how amazing apprenticeships are.

My name is Cara Anderson, I work for Mars Inc. Mars is a privately owned business that has many different product categories, some of which may surprise you. We have Chocolate (Mars & Snickers), Chewing Gum (Wrigley), Food (Ben’s Original and Dolmio) and Petcare (Royal Canine, Pedigree, Whiskas).
I work in the Food Category as a Global Food Safety Standardization Lead. My responsibility is to support our factories to meet the Mars food safety and quality standards and drive improvements. I speak to people all over the world each day and get to travel to our factories across the globe.
During my career I have worked in many different food industries, including flavours, crisps, bakery, sandwiches, fruit juice, airline catering, chocolate, rice and sauces.
I studied food technology and would be happy to talk to you about my career and the types of things I have done in my various roles.

Edward Hems

My name is Edward Hems and I have worked in UBS for the last 16 years in many different roles in the Technology Organisation.  Currently I am responsible for the delivery of the technology solutions to our Real Estate, Procurement and Business Management organisations and have a team of 140 people spread across multiple locations to deliver that change.  Prior to UBS I worked at Accenture for 10 years on different clients and projects in their Financial Services practice after graduating from Birmingham University with a degree in Engineering.

Sindhu Manda (Executive Director)

My name is Sindhu Manda, Executive Director in Risk Technology team. I have been in UBS for 9+ years and it has been a wonderful journey – in various teams, roles and projects.  In my current role, I head the Cloud transformation initiative for moving our legacy infrastructure to strategic Cloud infrastructure. I started my career as a software developer in Hewlett Packard and worked in various financial institutions. I hold a degree of Engineering in Computer Science.

Georgia Koopman

My name is Georgia Koopman and I am currently an Industrial Placement Student at UBS working in the Strategy & Business Administration team within Technology Services. I am a student at The University of Leeds where I study Natural Sciences. During my year at UBS  work closely with the Chief of Staff team and I have been able to gain exposure to lots of different technologies and developed skills such as data analysis and programme management through work on various strategic projects.

Ravi Gohel

My name is Ravi Gohel and I am a Technology graduate at UBS working within UBS Next, the firm’s venture and innovation unit.  My current role is a Technology Strategist one, looking at big technology themes and strategizing how these can be incorporated into UBS.  I graduated last summer from the University of Exeter with a Computer Science with Industrial Placement degree.  I completed my Industrial Placement also at UBS, during 2020 – 2021, where I worked in what is now the Strategy & Business Administration team within Technology Services.”

After completing pupillage I became a tenant and criminal defence barrister specialising in fraud for 9 years before left and became in-house defence counsel, specialising in high profile complex fraud. Once I had my daughter, I ran a prosecution and enforcement team for Brent Council for 8 years. Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden (WBSL) is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art film and TV studio offering one of the largest facilities in the UK. Mid Chiltern Primary Care Networks(PCN) is a collaboration of 5 GP Practices in Buckinghamshire of whom I am the Clinical Director as well as the Senior Clinical Pharmacist. I am an independent prescriber and help patients manage long term conditions like Diabetes, Asthma, Hypertension etc We also work very closely with Buckinghamshire NHS hospital Trusts and commissioning bodies . We have recently joined up with Oxfordshire and West Berkshire to form an Integrated Care Board (ICB), I work one day a week in this role to support the Pharmacists new to PCN in training and development. With me on the day I have Debbie Street who works with Health Education England for our ICB. She is looking at Pharmacy Careers for the future and she can talk to Students interested in becoming Pharmacists of the changing landscape and opportunities in this career in the future.

Volunteering at Watford General Hospital.
We currently have 300 active volunteers aged between 16-18 years old. All of them have a keen interest in a carer in medicine and wanting to help others.
A Response volunteer engages with patients and staff as part of a large multi-disciplinary team of nurses, doctors and therapists. The role is not clinical, but plays a key part in providing the hospital with an extra pair of hands, assisting with tasks such as chatting to patients, distributing meals, making drinks, and running errands for staff and patients. Sgt Chris Ward. I joined the RAF as a Reconnaissance Photographer which has taken me all around the world. I have spent most of my time in Northern Ireland supporting the Army. I have flown in most of the RAF Helicopters and I’ve been fortunate to Fly with the RED Arrows for 3 years. In my spare time I coach the RAF Natural Luge Team which takes me to Italy every year for winter training. I have now worked with the RAF Engagement Team for the Past 7 Years. I class this role as one of the most important roles I have taken on. Helping new Recruits find there role and place within the RAF.

Our interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree is the first of its kind in the UK. Norland was founded in Norland Place, London, in 1892 by education pioneer Emily Ward and has been at the forefront of childcare training ever since.
